Iona Leong is an oral pathologist and associate professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto, and at Mount Sinai Hospital. She received her B.Sc., B.Sc. Hons and B.D.S. degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, and her diploma and M.Sc. in Oral Pathology from the University of Toronto. She has been active in academic and clinical oral pathology and oral medicine since 1998. In addition to her major teaching role in the oral pathology and oral medicine residency training program, she teaches undergraduate dental students, other dental specialty residents and medical specialty residents.
She has developed and implemented continuing education programs for dentists and dental specialists since 2017. She maintains a practice limited to clinical oral pathology and oral medicine in the Department of Dentistry, Mount Sinai Hospital, where she is head of the Division of Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine. She is also an associate staff pathologist in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Mount Sinai Hospital and the Department of Pathobiology and Laboratory Medicine, University of Toronto. She served as the Chief Examiner in Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine from 2013 – 2018 and is currently the Board Director for Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine at the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.
